About us
First Presbyterian Church in Socorro is a warm, welcoming, and compassionate church family.
In the spirit of Jesus' admonition to bring His message to the world, we endeavor to be a church
that reaches out to local and worldwide communities in a caring, inclusive spirit of Christian
love. Our Sunday services encourage deep feelings of worship and a deep sense of connection to
God and with all the members of God's family throughout the world. We work closely with our
minister to foster relationships through visitation, outreach, and worship, and seek to
spiritually nourish all who share in our family of faith.
Who we are:
We are fortunate to have a varied congregation. The majority of our members are older adults.
Their wisdom, experience, and stability have contributed to the emotional and financial stability
of the church. Recently, however, we've been proud to welcome some newer, younger members!
Our congregation falls along typical educational/occupational lines. We have professionals
(business owners, educators), both white and blue collar workers, and government employees
among our members. Socorro is a small university town, and because of this, we have members
who work at New Mexico Tech. Formally educated or not, we are an intelligent and perceptive
group. Most members in the Socorro church live in the city limits; however, farming and ranching
are important elements of our community's economy and we do have members who live outside of town.
